In december 2009 I decided to start from scratch and write new music for what would eventually turn out to be my first solo album. The old music I had created didn't represent me either as a guitar player or composer anymore. It was time to start of fresh and create a new genre of music, that was very different from my previous work.
The first song I wrote was Memories, which turned out to be a reference point for the musical atmosphere I had in mind for the album; dark but still beautiful and melodic with a glimse of light to it. During the same time I was going through some personal changes in my life, that I'm sure affected the music as well. I spent the next year writing, arranging and recording songs for the album. It was 12 months of hard work, experiences, laughs, frustration, encouraging words from family and friends, sore fingers but most of all musical maturity.
Even though the album is more or less a one man's job, I had the pleasure of getting colaborations along the way.
As you probably know, the album has three prominent guest musicians on it:
Lalle Larsson who is a really good friend of mine, and an enourmous inspiration. Not only did Lalle
record a virtuosic keyboard solo and some beautiful addidtional piano work for the song "By the blue horizon",
but he has also helped me with suggestions and support along the way.
Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal of Guns N´ Roses did an amazing solo on the title track of the album.
I have known Ron for many years, and during a GN'R show in Sweden in the summer of 2010,
I told him about my album. He was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule and
record a guest solo for the song. Having one of my biggest influences on my album is a huge
hounor to say at least.
Mattias IA Eklundh of Freak Kitchen was a obvoius choice to have on my album. As with Bumblefoot,
IA has been a friend of mine for many years and I had the privilege of taking quite a lot of lessons from him,
when I was a young struggling guitar player. Mattias was also kind enough to take time out of his
very busy schedule to record a kick ass solo for the song "Abobe the surface".
The whole album with the exceptions of my guests was recorded in my own home studio.
The mastering was handled by John Rogers at Big Label sound studio in Los Angeles, California.
The album contains special tonalities and moods such as twelve tone rows, three and four tonic
chord progressions. There are also quite a lot of interesting rythmic parts with influences from
south Indian music among other things.
