Interview with Vigier USA
Why Vigier?
The first Vigier I tried was Bumblefoot’s “flying foot” guitar back in 2005 and I really loved the neck. The same year I got myself a Surfreter and I was blown away by the craftsmanship and quality of the instrument. From there I hooked up with Patrice and got myself an Excalibur custom guitar in 2007.
What I like about the guitars beside the fact that they are amazing to play is that they are so reliable. When I got my guitars I made one setup where I adjusted the string height etc, and I have never needed to do anything more. In Sweden we can have pretty intense weather conditions with temperature and humidity and it has never caused a problem like with my previous guitars where the neck sometimes looked like a banana.
Can you describe your current rig?
Sure! Guitar wise I use the Excalibur custom HSH and HSS models as well as a Surfreter custom. All guitars are equipped with Dimarzio pickups and Curt Mangan Strings (various gauges). I mainly use a Rocktron Prophesy preamp lined out to a small cab. Often I use amp and/or cab simulators in my recording software since I live in a flat and can’t really crank a tube amp to high volumes without my neighbors killing me. I also use pedals by AMT electronics. Not many effects going on beside a wah pedal and occasionaly a whammy pedal.
Tell us about your latest album and whatever you have in the works.
I released my debut album entitled Silhouettes last year. If I had to describe the style it would be dark romantic music with influences from progressive metal, jazz/fusion and modern classical music. The album has 6 songs and around 50 minutes of music. I released the album as a physical CD as well as digitally (iTunes, Amazon etc). Three friends are playing on the album as well; fellow Vigier artist Bumblefoot of Guns N’ Roses, Mattias IA Eklundh (Freak Kitchen) and keyboard virtuoso Lalle Larsson.
Right now I’m working on a new album with a guitar player named Christian Johansson. The music will be some kind of rock/fusion and not as extreme as my solo album. I also work with a local singer from my hometown, doing some live shows. Beside that I also hope to be doing some clinics etc later this year.
If you could put together your ultimate dream band who would it be in it with you?
That’s a hard question since there are so many good players out here. It’s almost impossible to choose since I listen to so many different styles of music. I would have to go with the people I mentioned in the previous question.
Name your 5 favorite albums all time.
Ok, this list keeps changing all the time but here are five albums I always enjoy listen to:
Allan Holdswoth – Wardenclyffe Tower
Shawn Lane – Powers of Ten
The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Guns N’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction
John Coltrane – Blue Train
